My Intrinsic Motivation

My intrinsic motivation to leisure derives from people's feedback. I am intrinsically motivated when I do something, or say something, and I am rewarded verbally. For example, if I do a show, then I am more motivated when people come up to me and tell me how much they enjoyed the music. It allows me to keep working on it, and giving it 110 percent. If I didnt have fans then I would still be trying to pursue music. Basically the support and the reassurance enforces positive energy that causes me to pursue leisure. Of course I do it for extrinsic purposes as well, but the blogging idea said intrinsic and for me it is more apparent. I've also been meaning to write about this, but never found the time or state of mind to do so.

The Mother Of All Shows

A couple of days after the flipmode concert, my friend who owns www.hithiphop.com said he was networking with one of the biggest tour managers in the music buisness. My friend explained that he wanted to book an artist to do a show in Montreal for the month of December. The tour manager named him a list of artists that were available. Obviously, it would cost a lot of money and also to rent out the venue on an opening night for both the venue and the artist. After having a meeeting with a financial backer, we agreed to book an artist that would be seen as an investment..one that could sellout and bring lots of profit. Coincidently, the tour manager said he had Busta Rhymes available, who is known to be the greatest LIVE performer in the rap industry. The price for Busta was more expensive than any of other artists that were named, but he is also the most likely to sellout, so we saw opportunity. After talking to lawyers and going over the contracts we confirmed to book Busta Rhymes for December 9th at Metropolis. It will be presented by hithiphop.com, and more importantly, I will be one his opening acts. For me, this is so overwhelming and I'm so nervous for one of the biggest hip hop showcases that Montreal can ever witness. After hearing the good news, I decided to call Spliff Star (Busta's right hand man)to explain to him about the upcoming show, in which he told me he would be there with Busta. I consider that to be one of the best days of my life and based on this statement, it is fair to say that I did something extremely leisurely.

Shows Are Always Fun

This is a picture of Me, Spliff Star, and the administrator of www.hithiphop.com

The following is a video of Splif Star and Busta Rhymes engaging in what we call "Purple Leisure".

So I had the opportunity to go to a free "Flipmode Squad" concert. Flipmode Squad is Busta Rhymes's crew of rappers who have been in the music industry since hip hop first evolved. They are considered pioneers as well as legends. Unfortunately hip hop music these days is a little more diverse and it attracts a younger generation, therefore their show was practically empty, but nonetheless I enjoyed it. Because there was a little amount of people, I had the opportunity to go backstage and talk to Splif Star, the main member of the "Flipmode Squad". For me, this was leisure at it's highest potential. In our discuusion we talked about music, as well as my music. I actually got to have a little rap session with him, in which I "lit a fire under his ass." He was highly impressed and i was intrinsically motivated. He gave me his cell phone number and told me to call him if I ever wanted to do some business. So basically, I didnt pay, I didnt wait in line, I saw a good show, and i networked with some of the biggest artists in the hip hop industry. Consequently it led to more leisure opportunity and i will discuss this in upcoming blogs.

Blogging Is Like My Girlfriend...

So i haven't been blogging much because i've been really busy between school, work and music. Obviously I've had the time to blog, but i didn't have the proper state of mind, therefore I gave it a rest until now, hoping to vent and release everything that I have contained in the last couple of weeks. Just like always, my leisure has been enjoying, yet stressful. I have been working really hard and it has drained me so much and I've been so tired. In the last couple of weeks I've been to some more shows as well as performing in one of them. As I've mentioned in previous blogs, this is my most desired leisure activity, but the time, effort and money that goes into these shows, often makes me want to consider another leisure activity. I love music and it will always be a priority to me because it motivates me intrinsically as well as extrinsically. Not only have i went to shows in the last couple of weeks, but i'va also worked a lot, as well as for school. In upcoming blogs, I will mention more about the shows that I attended and the leisurely things that I engaged in... in attempt to educate my blog readers. Stay tuned!
