Blog Summary # 3
The last twelve weeks of the semester have taught me so much about leisure education. First off, they taught me what my favorite leisure is. Based on my previous blogs, I have realized that my ulitmate leisure experience is anything revolving around music. I realized that I spend most of time working on music or studying it in order to leisurely educate myself. Leisure Education is significant because it teaches us how to make the most of our leisure. It defines leisures, exploits leisure, and even suggests trying new leisure. The teachings of leisure education has made me understand time managment, leisure conflicts, and most importantly leisure education. The course also taught me about blogging so that I could educate myself as well as others. Now I understand myself much better and anyone who reads my blog can get a clear understanding of my leisure. if they want they might even try to reenact one of my leisure experiences because I've educated them about it, making it apopealing and interesting. Based on all my blogs it is fair to say that my leisure is related to music, sports, and travel. This should not come as a surprise, considering these are some of the top leisure pursuits. Another thing this class taught me is how everyone is entitled to their own leisure preferences which means I cannot pass judgemnt unitil I've done it myself or been educated about it. Leisure Eductaion has been a really big eye opener for me because I never took the opportunity to understand my own personal leisure. When I first started this course I didn't know how I was going to keep up with all my leisure expectations, but the theory and the blogs helped realize that leisure is everywhere and that we should take advantage of it. After seeing other's leisure experiences, It inspired me to try a bunch of new activities until I find one that I would like to pursue for the rest of my life. Now my attitude is quite different then when i first stared the course, because now I feel educated and I feel like I can educate outsiders as well. Also, I realized that keeping leisure experiences documented, helps the "flow" of leisure education in the sense that you learn from your errors and from your experiences. Unlike the thoery of learned helplessness, I discovered new types of leisure that I will continue to pursue because I know that it makes me happy. When I first started, I thought I knew everything about leisure, but now I feel like I can educate others about leisure. I learned so much nnew information about my classmates and about myself, so now I can take the opportunity to plan leisure with others who will learn from it.
My Leisure Planning For The Holidays

Seeing as how school is almost over, now is a good time to start thinking about some leisure experiences for the holidays. For the next couple of weeks, I have some school work to do as well as some exams. When this is done I plan on going to Dominican Republic from December 14 to December 21 for a one-week all inclusive vacation with two close friends of mine. I went to Dominican Republic in the summer and it was perhaps the greatest week of leisure that i ever experienced. I can't wait to do it all over again. Then when I come back, I can enjoy Christmas with the family, followed by some leisurely winter sports like snowboarding and outdoor hockey. The holidays are probably the best time to either pursue leisure or to try a new leisure experience.
Porfessor Henle's Class? I Knew I Was In For A Fun Class
So when I heard Steven Henle was teaching another leisure, I knew I had to sign up. Although I had the pleasure of being one of Mr. Henle's students, I had never taken AHSC 350 - Leisure Education. When I first saw "leisure education", I expected a class that was going to teach us about leisure, but more imprtantly engage us in leisure. For the most part I was right, but there was a lot of theory that applied to leisure. At first, I thought I was wrong, but as the semester progressed, I realized that the course was actually a lot of fun. It was not necessarily an easy one, but it was relevant and extremely educational. Considering I am a Leisure Sciences student, I thought I knew a lot about leisure, but this class made me understand leisure from a whole new perspective. In fact, it even helped me engage in leisure and then document it in my blog. I never actually recorded my leisure so when i look back, I realized that I do have a lot of fun and that leisure really is important to me. Leisure is one the healthiest and most important things for everyone. It brings the best out of people and it allows us to discover new and joyful things about ourselves that can educate others.
My Leisure Experience

Unfortunately, my new leisure experience has not taken place yet, but it's actually tomorrow night. For the first time in my life, I am going to a Montreal Canadiens hockey game. I've always loved hockey and i even used to play it when I was younger, but i never had the opportunity to go see one live at the bell center. I know Im going to enjoy it because I consider it leisure when Im watching it on a 13 inch TV in french on top if it. Now I can feel the love from a first hand perspective because I know Montreal has the best fans and of course the best team. I am also looking forward to this experience because it's the hundred year anniversary of the habs. so it makes the whole game a lot more exciting. I dont know what to expect from the Canadiens because they might not win, but I know that this will be a leisure experience to remember and to look forward to in the future
I Used To Hate Driving...Now It's Leisure
I was never the one to enjoy driving because of gas prices and so forth. Now I love to drive for two reasons. The first reason is because the gas prices have dropped immensely. This allows driving to be alot cheaper and overall a more enjoyable experience. Another reason why I enjoy driving now is because I installed a whole new sound system in my car. Before I had crappy blown speakers and a cd deck that didnt even work. Although the sound system cost me about 800$, it was well worth it. First off, it's worth about 2500$ so right there I saved myself a lot of money. Secondly, I have an amzing sound system wiith super loud bass and good clarity as well. By now, it is obvious that I love music so just having a home theater system in my car makes the whole experience change. Now I love to drive around and listen to music all day. It doesn't bother me becuase of the gas prices and the fact that I am participating in leisure everytime I get in my car. Also, I always wanted a sound system for my car but I never got one because they are so expensive. Now that I got a good deal, and gas prices being so low, I can have so much fun driving...even when I'm in traffic.
Leisure Is Not Emotional But It Can Be Personal
The reason why leisuure is not generally emotional is because it always seems to overpower the things that are personal. When I am mad or upset with something, leisure makes me forget all about it and that's why I do it. Also it cannot be considered leisure or recreation if there's a chance of it getting too emotional. This doesnt mean that its not possible, but I think most leisure is just a desire and not necessarily something that is a personal issue. I love music and music is definitely personal, but music will never hurt me. Basically what im saying is that percieved leisure can never be the opposite of what you expect. Leisure always has a positive outcome and it always outweighs the negative. The reason why I wrote this is because of the mood I was feeling when I wrote this. I've been stressed out with personal issues that can be emotionally challenging, but the music, the sports, and all the leisure I enjoy have eliminated all feelings of sadness or frustration.
I Hate Group Work
For this AHSC 350 Course, we had to do a group assignment on a leisure program that would leisure educate all the participants. I liked all my group members, but we could have done a lot better as a team. Our prsentation was alright, but our paper was a disaster. Our group decided that everyone writes their part and then we put it all together and editit. My mistake was that I trusted the others and expected that they would do a good job. When I saw the final paper an hour before class, I freaked out!!! It was really not good and I did my best to clean it up, but there was a lot of things that needed to be changed, and also I didnt want to be the one to pass judgement. Instead, a couple of things got fixed, b ut the overall paper was no good. The problem was the poor communication skills and the effortless tasks that everybody left unfinished and unprofessional.
